Mogadishu — Explosions in Somalia capital Mogadishu have left at least one dead and injured seven overnight, the latest attacks since Somali government and African Union (AU) peacekeeping forces took full control of the city from Al shabab in August last year.

The first blast occurred at Carwo-idka junction in central Mogadishu, after unknown assailants have hurled hand grenades on a base for Somali government soldiers in the area, killing one passerby and wounding at least three people, among them soldiers, witnesses said.

The second, which was a remote-controlled landmine targeted Somali army stationed at Dabka intersection (fire junction), in Bakaro market, the biggest market in Somalia. One person killed and four people injured, all have been confirmed to be civilians.

On Sunday morning Somali security forces launched intense search operations in the villages hit by the Saturday night blasts. No arrests were made over the attacks so far. The situation has returned into normal, residents reported.
