Important Notice for Members: Mandatory Smart Port Note (SPN) Effective 1st February 2026

GNBCC wishes to draw the attention of members and stakeholders to the following important notice shared by ConnexAfrica Ghana, regarding upcoming changes to shipping requirements in Ghana.

According to ConnexAfrica, effective 1 February 2026, all cargo destined to, exported from, or transiting through Ghana will be required to have a Smart Port Note (SPN). This requirement applies without exception to imports, exports, and transit cargo.

ConnexAfrica further notes that the SPN number must be issued and validated prior to shipment and must be clearly reflected on the Bill of Lading and cargo manifest. Shipments arriving in Ghana without a valid SPN may be subject to clearance delays, penalties, or possible rejection at destination.

The Smart Port Note initiative has been introduced by the Ghana Shippers’ Authority (GSA) and aims to:

• Enhance cargo visibility and traceability
• Improve regulatory compliance
• Increase operational efficiency at Ghanaian ports

ConnexAfrica advises that early preparation is essential for shippers, exporters, importers, and consignees to ensure continued smooth cargo movements once the requirement takes effect.
