Member Spotlight: KBGL launches initiative to enhance technical skills of poultry farmers

Kuipers Breeders Ghana Limited (KBGL), a GNBCC Member and a leading poultry hatchery and breeding company, has launched a nationwide seminar series aimed at enhancing the technical skills of local poultry farmers across Ghana.

The initiative is designed to equip both new and experienced farmers with practical knowledge and tools to improve flock management, increase productivity, and strengthen profitability within the poultry sector.

The most recent seminars, held in Accra and Tamale under the theme “Master the Rearing, Own the Market,” attracted poultry farmers from across the country for hands-on technical training and knowledge sharing.

Addressing participants, Mr. Moses Aidoo, General Manager, emphasised the importance of correct rearing practices and reaffirmed KBGL’s long-term commitment to supporting farmers and growing Ghana’s poultry industry.

Managing Director, Mr. Jurjen Kuipers, described the seminar initiative as part of KBGL’s broader strategy to strengthen the poultry sector through knowledge transfer, access to quality inputs, and technical assistance. He highlighted the role of poultry farming in rural empowerment, youth employment, and food security, noting that farmer capacity building is central to sustainable sector growth.

Further technical insights were provided by Hatchery Manager, Mr. Munyaradzi Chisvo, who stressed the importance of starting chicks correctly from day one, linking early-stage care to lifetime productivity and overall farm performance.

The seminars included practical demonstrations led by veterinary expert, Dr. Harrison Chitsungo, alongside the Kuipers After-Sales Team. Participants were trained on how to measure chick temperatures using Kuipers-branded thermometers, with each attendee receiving a thermometer to support hands-on learning and application on their farms.

Founded in 2021, KBGL operates a state-of-the-art hatchery located in Amuyaokope, Sege, in the Greater Accra Region, producing 20–30 million day-old chicks annually. The facility employs advanced technology and strict biosecurity measures to breed disease-resistant, high-performing chicks adapted to local farming conditions.

KBGL’s operations in Ghana build on a poultry heritage dating back to 1939 in the Netherlands. Through local production, job creation, farmer capacity building, and technical support, Kuipers Breeders Ghana Limited continues to strengthen Ghana’s poultry value chain, contributing to agricultural development, economic resilience, and sustainable livelihoods nationwide.
