Launch of She’ll Fix initiative by Vivo Energy

GNBCC was honored to attend the launch of the She’ll Fix Campaign in support of our member, Vivo Energy. The event brought together stakeholders from across sectors, including managers from other Chambers of Commerce, representatives from Women in PR, the head of the Ghana Police (Airport Division), staff of Vivo Energy, and members of the public.

Launched at the Airport Shell in Accra last Saturday, the initiative forms part of Vivo Energy’s flagship She Power Diversity and Inclusion Campaign, which seeks to fuel change and empower women in all aspects of life. More than 200 women are expected to benefit from the She’ll Fix programme, which will equip them with basic car maintenance skills to boost their safety and confidence on the road.

Speaking at the launch, the Managing Director of Vivo Energy Ghana, Mr. Christian Li, explained that the initiative would provide practical, hands-on training in areas such as checking oil levels, topping up fluids, and jump-starting batteries. He emphasized that empowering women with technical skills also strengthens families and communities.

Ms. Shirley Kum (Corporate Affairs, Vivo Energy Ghana), in her remarks, expressed gratitude to Mr. Li for his leadership and support in driving initiatives that empower women. She also commended her team for their hard work and appreciated the collaboration and encouragement from the Chambers of Commerce, Women in PR, and other partners present.

The keynote address was delivered by the President of the Institute of Public Relations (IPR) Ghana, Ms. Esther Ambah Numaba Cobbah, who commended Vivo Energy for introducing She’ll Fix. She reiterated the importance of empowering women to take ownership in areas traditionally seen as male-dominated. While women are known to “fix everything,” she observed, society has often limited their engagement in technical fields such as vehicle maintenance.

The Superintendent and Head of the Airport Police Division also stressed the importance of safe driving practices as we approach the festive season, urging drivers, especially women, to avoid distractions such as makeup or mobile phone use while driving, and to always carry valid licenses.

Adding excitement to the day, a Spin the Wheel session gave participants the chance to win amazing prizes and goodies, including Shell cards, insurance discount coupons, branded She’llFix souvenirs, free makeovers, and more.

A highlight of the event was a technical session led by industry experts at Vivo Energy, Kofi and Shecanic, who shared practical knowledge on car care. Key highlights included:

  • 70–80% of car issues are linked to lubrication, highlighting the importance of using the right engine oil.
  • Brake fluid should be changed every two years.
  • Both men and women should learn essential skills such as changing a tyre.
  • Coolant should never be replaced with water, as it leads to corrosion and higher maintenance costs.
  • Every tyre carries its week and year of manufacture, a crucial detail for safety-conscious drivers.

The She’ll Fix Campaign is a pioneering initiative that empowers women with the knowledge and tools to maintain their vehicles, promoting safer roads and building greater confidence behind the wheel.
