A military helicopter carrying senior government officials and army personnel has crashed in the Adansi Akrofuom district of Ashanti Region \u2013 killing all eight people on board, including the Defence and Environment Ministers, the presidency has said.<\/p>\n
The Z9 helicopter, operated by the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), took off from Accra at 09:12 a.m. local time en route to Obuasi, where the delegation was scheduled to attend the Responsible Cooperative Mining and Skills Development Programme (rCOMSDEP).<\/p>\n
According to the Military High Command, the aircraft lost contact with radar shortly after departure. It was later found aflame in Adansi Akrofuom district, according to eyewitnesses. The cause of the crash is under investigation.<\/p>\n
The Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, confirmed the fatalities at a press briefing hours after Military High Command reported the aircraft missing.<\/p>\n
Those killed include Defence Minister, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah; Environment Minister, Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed; Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator, Muniru Mohammed; and Dr. Samuel Sarpong, vice chairman of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).<\/p>\n
Also among the dead were Samuel Aboagye, a former parliamentary candidate; Squadron Leader Peter; Flying Officer Twum Ampadu; and Sergeant Ernest Addo.<\/p>\n
