Organized in collaboration with the National Commission on Culture (NCC), the event marked the official launch of the Black Star Experience Food Month – a presidential initiative that aims to revive Ghana’s culinary heritage while promoting healthier eating habits.

The inaugural Healing Pot Cook-Off was a remarkable success. Leveraging the natural footfall at the iconic venue, it attracted a diverse audience of food lovers, health enthusiasts, and curious passersby. Visitors were treated to a day rich in aroma, taste, education, and cultural displays.

One of the highlights of the day was a culinary competition that saw four talented contestants battle it out before a panel of four judges. The panel included HBP’s own Chairperson, Madam Catherine, who served as an esteemed evaluator. Contestants were tasked with preparing traditional Ghanaian meals using healthy, locally sourced ingredients. Dishes presented included Fufu with ‘Ebunuebunu’ (Green Soup), a nutrient-rich delicacy whose vibrant color came from blended spring onions and other leafy greens. Another creative dish was a low-carb ‘Akple’ with fried mushrooms and a chili-infused sauce, a healthy twist to a Volta regional classic.

Meals were judged on the inspiration behind the dish, its nutritional value, the uniqueness of the ingredients used, and, of course, taste and presentation.

Beyond the cook-off, interactive seminars were held. One focused on the growing incidence of fibroids among Ghanaian women, highlighting the link between diet and hormonal health. A compelling takeaway emphasized how reducing processed foods, increasing intake of fruits and vegetables, and avoiding excess sugar can significantly lower the risk of fibroids and other non-communicable diseases.

Another major attraction was the exhibition pavilion, which brought together businesses and entrepreneurs in Ghana’s food and horticulture value chains. HBP members and partners showcased a variety of products, including organic spices, coconut oil, herbal teas, seedlings, seeds, and fresh produce. The pavilion highlighted the potential within the local fruit and vegetable sector.

The event also incorporated a rich cultural dimension. Energetic drumming, singing, and performances reminded attendees of Ghana’s deep-rooted connection between food and heritage. This cultural backdrop enhanced the atmosphere and added a nostalgic rhythm to the day’s proceedings.

HBP’s participation in the Healing Pot Cook-Off was a direct reflection of its commitment to supporting any initiative that brings value and exposure to Ghana’s fruit and vegetable producers. By partnering with events like this, HBP demonstrates its belief that every opportunity to showcase the local horticulture sector is a step in the right direction. This advocacy for fresh, Ghana-grown produce reinforces the powerful connection between what we grow and how we live, guided by the simple principle that when we produce right, we eat right and live healthier, happier lives.

The Horticulture Business Platform (HBP) participated in the maiden edition of the Healing Pot Cook-Off, a culinary and cultural celebration held over the weekend at the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park.

"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paywalled_content":false
_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false
[151

post-13132","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-hbp
As a proud sponsor, the Horticulture Business Platform (HBP) invites you to be part of an exciting cultural and wellness experience — The Healing Pot Cook-Off 2025!
https://i0.wp.com/gnbcc.net/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/2025-08-01_0_Cook_off_flyer.png?resize=350%2C200&ssl=1
The Horticulture Business Platform (HBP) extends its warmest congratulations to all gallant farmers and agricultural workers across the nation as we celebrate National Farmers’ Day.
