The aim is to secure progress on dual nationality and other key issues affecting over one million Dutch citizens living outside the Netherlands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As we enter 2026, there is little time for a quiet start to the year. The Netherlands is still in the midst of coalition negotiations, and recent developments have created a <strong>new political reality<\/strong> for Dutch citizens abroad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Following earlier appeals directed at CDA and D66, the <strong>VVD has now formally joined the coalition talks<\/strong>, significantly increasing its influence over key policy areas \u2014 including <strong>dual nationality<\/strong>, SNBN\u2019s core advocacy issue. SNBN extends its thanks to everyone who already contacted VVD representatives in recent weeks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In addition, <strong>JA21 may also join the coalition<\/strong>. Even if a minority government is formed, parliamentary support from other parties will still be required. This makes engagement with VVD and JA21 especially critical at this stage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What SNBN Is Asking<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">SNBN is issuing a <strong>second and urgent appeal<\/strong> for Dutch citizens abroad to contact <strong>VVD and JA21 representatives<\/strong>, regardless of party membership, to ensure that the interests of Dutch citizens living outside the Netherlands are reflected in the new coalition agreement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The primary objective is clear:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>An agreement on opening up dual nationality in 2026.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">SNBN encourages individuals to personalise their messages, as personal experiences and backgrounds help bring these issues to life. Those who wish may copy SNBN on their correspondence (<a>info@snbn.nl<\/a>) to support coordinated advocacy and reporting in future updates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Key Advocacy Priorities<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">SNBN continues to advocate for several critical issues affecting more than <strong>one million Dutch citizens abroad<\/strong>, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Dual nationality and restoration of involuntarily lost Dutch citizenship<\/strong>, in line with most European countries<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Digital voting trials from abroad<\/strong>, to ensure fair participation in elections<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Simplified passport renewals<\/strong>, particularly in regions with limited consular access<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Access to Dutch bank accounts<\/strong>, essential for healthcare, education, and financial administration<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Preservation and support of Dutch-language education abroad<\/strong>, benefiting both families and the Netherlands<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Additional concerns include pensions, naturalisation for non-Dutch partners, maintaining a strong consular network, and further digitalisation of government services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Contact Details for Policymakers<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Public email addresses of Dutch politicians are available online.
