By the Citizenship Act of 2002 (Act 591), Ghanaians who have acquired US Citizenship are eligible to apply for dual citizenship.
Guidelines
The applicants must fill out the dual Nationality Formulation for a fee of 250 dollars.
The form must be filled out completely before sending it by the Embassy and later on to Accra’s Ministry of Interior in Accra.
REQUIREMENTS:
APPLICANT NEEDS PURCHASES APPLICATION FORM ($250.00 FORM IS NOT FREE)
To obtain the form, ENSURE THAT YOU HAVE completed the required information and are sure of your ELIGIBILITY AND EMAIL the form to the EMBASSY of GHANA:
1. $250.00 CASHIER’S CHEQUE POSTALABLE TO the Embassy of GHANA (FEES are not refundable once the FORM IS BUYED)
2. A copy of your identification card bearing the name you want to be included on the certificate.
3. A SELF-ADDRESSED, STAMPED, and TRACKABLE Envelope for Return. This is used to send the application form back to you.
Application forms must be completed by applicants upon receipt and submitted to the Embassy with the required SUPPORTING Documents:
1. 2 SIZE PASSPORT PHOTOGRAPHS
2. Photocopy of GHANAIAN BIRTH CERTIFICATE
3. A PHOTOCOPY OF THE BIO PAGE Ghanaian Passport (EVEN IF expired)
4. A PHOTOCOPY OF THE BIO PAGE American Passport
5. Photocopy of Naturalization Certificate
6. NAMES, ADDRESSES, and TELEPHONE NUMBERS OF TWO RESIDENTS residents of GHANA to be contacted by GHANA Immigration Service.
CHILDREN born in the United USA to a Ghanaian father are eligible to claim GHANAIAN CITIZENSHIP. Note: The parent from Ghana must possess a valid GHANIAN PASSPORT for THE CHILD to be eligible.
Completed application forms received are TRANSFERRED to the MINISTRY of Interior for processing.
The Ministry of Interior HAS the power to deny or approve applications
After APPROVAL is granted, a CERTIFICATE and ID Card is issued and returned to the EMBASSY.
THE EMBASSY THEN FORWARDS THE CERTIFICATES AND IDENTIFICATION CARDS TO APPLICANTS UPON RECEIPT.
The processing time is between SIX MONTHS – eighteen months.
