The three-bedroom bungalow where Jeff Bezos started Amazon has gone up for sale for the first time in ten years - and it would set you back nearly $1.5 million.

The property, in West Bellvue, Seattle, contains the garage cited as the birthplace of Amazon - which became the world's second $1 trillion company in September.

Bezos rented the bungalow in 1994 and based his fledgling company there for 'only a few months' before it moved to a small office in Sodo, the Seattle Times reported.

But since the entrepreneur lived at the 1,540 square-foot property, it has undergone a great deal of renovation work and was rebuilt in 2001.

The garage has also been remodeled and may not resemble the original Amazon headquarters, John L. Scott real estate agent Pat Sullivan said.

An oversized mailbox installed at the home by Bezos so he could receive catalogs is still in place.

Mr Sullivan said a friend who works at Amazon, which still owns more than 40 buildings in Seattle, was planning to post the listing on the company's internal site.

He said: 'I think there's a good chance an Amazon exec might buy this for bragging rights'.

The Everything Store, which documents the history of the company, claims Amazon was based at the garage for a few months before Bezos began hiring and moved to a small office.

He and his soon-to-be ex-wife MacKenzie then moved into an apartment in Belltown.

But Mr Sullivan said the current owners only mentioned the connection in passing when they were discussing the sale.

He said: 'And they said, "Oh by the way, I don’t know if this would matter at all, but Jeff Bezos used to live here and he started Amazon in the garage.

'I said, "Yes, that would totally matter."'
