German skipper Bastian Schweinsteiger and his sweetheart Ana Ivanovic have been joined in holy matrimony in a flashy ceremony in the Italian resort town of Venice today (Tuesday).
The pair have been together since 2014, and the private ceremony featuring selected friends and family was held at the Venice City Hall.
The ceremony was held with the backdrop of the famous island town, sometimes dubbed ‘The Floating City’ for its architectural style, built entirely on water, with river bodies for roads and boats for cars.
The few guests included German coach Joachim Low, Thomas Mueller, and tennis stars Andy Murray and Angelique Kerber.
Schweinsteiger, whose future at Manchester United is in the air following the recent appointment of Jose Mourinho, captained his side to the just ended European Championship, where their quest to win the trophy was ended at the semi final stage by hosts France. Ivanovic is a former world number one tennis player who has since fallen off the top spots.
