The GNBCC premium member HB&O Legal brought Ghana’s legal community together for its inaugural Charity Fundraising Inter Law Firm Quiz Night, an evening of friendly competition and fundraising held on 29 July 2026.
The initiative grew out of HB&O Legal’s desire to deepen a culture of giving that has been part of the firm since it was founded two years ago. This began with legal clinics offering free legal guidance to people who might otherwise be unable to access it.
As the firm considered how it could do more, one idea stood out: while a single law firm can make a difference, bringing several firms together could create a much wider impact.
From that thinking came the Charity Fundraising Inter Law Firm Quiz Night, an initiative designed to bring law firms together not as competitors for clients, but as participants working towards a shared cause.
The first edition brought together teams from Legal Ink, Zoe, Atta Akyea & Co., Egality Law, Juris Ghana, Nartey Law Firm, Renaissance Law Chambers, Taylor Crabbe and Black Star Legal.
Throughout the evening, participants tested their knowledge across categories ranging from Ghanaian legal history to current affairs and general knowledge. Raffle ticket sales also formed part of the fundraising effort, with sponsors and donors lending their support to the event.
After an independently judged competition, Zoe, Atta Akyea & Co. emerged as champions of the inaugural edition.
The winning firm has been given the opportunity to select the charity or charities that will benefit from the funds raised. To ensure the donations reach credible organisations, nominated charities must be properly registered, have a genuine track record of charitable work and have no conflicts of interest.
HB&O Legal will work with Zoe, Atta Akyea & Co. on the charity selection process and has also encouraged the winning team to consider supporting more than one organisation where possible, allowing the funds raised to reach further.
The evening was also an important first step towards what could become a regular fixture within Ghana’s legal community. Following interest generated by the inaugural edition, Zoe, Atta Akyea & Co. is expected to co-host next year’s event with HB&O Legal.
For HB&O Legal, the initiative is an extension of an idea that has shaped the firm from the beginning: finding practical ways to give back. This time, that meant creating an opportunity for colleagues across the legal profession to come together, enjoy some friendly competition and contribute to causes beyond their day-to-day work.
