As part of its ongoing commitment to strengthening Ghana’s horticulture sector, the Horticulture Business Platform (HBP) has launched its Certification Support Program, designed to help member SMEs meet both local and international market standards.
In line with HBP’s objective to facilitate capacity-building workshops and skills development, this program seeks to equip SMEs with the necessary tools and technical support to attain certifications such as Green Label, FDA, GLOBALG.A.P., HACCP, and others. These certifications are crucial for enhancing product quality, ensuring food safety, and improving market access.
The process began in 2024 with a call for applications shared across the HBP network and beyond. Following a round of interviews and detailed needs assessments, 10 SMEs were carefully selected to participate in the program, along with qualified consultants to support them through the process. The program officially rolled out with a series of tailored training sessions. Each participating SME is currently receiving guidance tailored to the specific certification option they selected.
The trainings are designed to prepare SMEs for certification by building their understanding of the requirements and guiding them through facility audits, product assessments, and documentation processes, all in collaboration with certified consultants from the respective regulatory bodies.
HBP’s long-term goal is to support a greater number of SMEs to achieve certification, not only to ensure the safety and quality of what we consume, but also to unlock new market opportunities both locally and internationally.
The platform remains committed to creating real value for its members and helping Ghana’s horticulture sector thrive. Interested in joining the HBP network? Be part of this transformative journey by registering here.
