Pre-export verification of used cars comes into force soon

The Ghana Standards Authority (GSA) has announced October 1, 2026 as the commencement date for enforcing new automotive safety and conformity requirements for imported used vehicles.

The measure marks an important development for Ghana’s automotive and vehicle-import sector, with businesses involved in the importation and distribution of used vehicles expected to take note of the new requirements ahead of implementation.

The introduction of pre-export verification is expected to place greater emphasis on ensuring that used vehicles entering Ghana meet the required safety and conformity standards.

With the enforcement date approaching, importers and other stakeholders in the automotive value chain will need to stay informed and prepare for the new compliance requirements.
