Economist Prof. Godfred Bokpin has called on the government to use the 2026 Mid-Year Budget Review to provide investors and the private sector with a clear roadmap for Ghana’s economic direction beyond the country’s IMF-supported programme. He stressed that maintaining investor confidence will require greater clarity on how government intends to sustain recent macroeconomic gains while advancing the structural reforms needed to strengthen the economy.
The call comes at an important point in Ghana’s economic recovery, as the country seeks to consolidate progress made under the IMF programme and establish a sustainable path for growth. A clearly defined post-IMF strategy would help provide businesses and investors with greater certainty about the policy environment, fiscal direction and broader economic outlook.
For the private sector, policy predictability remains critical for investment and long-term business planning. A credible roadmap that builds on current stability while addressing underlying structural challenges could help strengthen confidence, encourage investment and support sustainable economic growth.
Prof. Bokpin’s call therefore places the 2026 Mid-Year Budget Review in a broader context: beyond assessing economic performance in the first half of the year, the review presents an opportunity for government to communicate how it intends to preserve the gains achieved so far and ensure that Ghana’s economic recovery remains durable after the IMF programme.
