Accra Painted Orange: A Spectacular King’s Day Celebration Last Friday

Last Friday, the vibrant heart of Accra was painted a brilliant shade of orange as the GNBCC, in proud collaboration with the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, hosted the highly anticipated Orange Party 2026: Celebrating King’s Day.

King’s Day is a cherished Dutch national holiday marking the birthday of King Willem-Alexander. While it has consistently been celebrated in Ghana through both formal and informal gatherings, this year marked a special milestone. For the first time, the event was cohosted by the Embassy and the GNBCC giving our members the opportunity to join the party.

From 6:00 PM, we welcomed more than 300 guests to the elegant Cantonments residence of Wendy van Meel, the Deputy Ambassador of the Netherlands to Ghana. The atmosphere was instantly electric. Attendees were treated to a charming evening of high-level networking, an endless flow of drinks, and a beautifully curated menu of Dutch-Ghanaian infused finger foods that perfectly mirrored the cultural harmony of the night.

The evening’s formalities were opened by Hilde Famaey, General Manager of the GNBCC. In her warm welcome address, she invited the event’s sponsors to the stage, extending heartfelt gratitude on behalf of the Chamber.

After thanking the Embassy for their trust in the GNBCC, Hilde invited everyone to raise their glasses in a cheerful toast to His Majesty’s birthday, officially kicking off the festivities!

The night was kept alive by a stellar live performance from Tone A band, who delivered a vibrant blend of local, foreign, and mixed-genre hits. The crowd was then treated to a special appearance by the Embassy band, led by Rens Twijnstra. A wave of warmth and nostalgia swept through the residence as guests sang at the top of their lungs to beloved Dutch renditions.

Perhaps the most poignant and beautiful moment of the night, which you will see captured in our photo gallery below was a special dedication to H.E. Jeroen Verheul, the Ambassador of the Netherlands to Ghana, who will be concluding his tenure this year. In a moving display of camaraderie, Embassy staff, GNBCC members, and guests joined the Ambassador on the dance floor, singing and dancing together in a joyous celebration of his time in Ghana.

Last Friday was truly a magical and unforgettable evening. We are deeply grateful to everyone who joined us to make the Orange Party 2026 such a resounding success.
