Vivo Energy Ghana Signs MoU with KNUST to Advance Next Generation of Energy Innovators

The GNBCC premium member, Vivo Energy Ghana PLC (VEGH), has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the College of Engineering at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) to collaborate on the upcoming NextGen Energy Innovators Challenge—an initiative aimed at empowering students to develop innovative solutions for Ghana’s evolving energy needs.

The partnership marks a significant step toward strengthening academia-industry collaboration and fostering innovation among young engineers and innovators. Through the NextGen Energy Innovators Challenge, students will be provided with a platform to develop practical, research-driven ideas and technologies that address real-world challenges within the energy sector.

The MoU was signed during a courtesy visit by the leadership and management team of Vivo Energy Ghana to KNUST, following the successful ShePower Summit 2026 held at the University’s College of Engineering.

Speaking during the signing, the Managing Director of Vivo Energy Ghana, Mr. Christian Li, highlighted the importance of the collaboration, noting that KNUST provides an ideal environment to nurture innovation and talent. He emphasised that the future of energy will be shaped by bold ideas, inclusive thinking, and strong partnerships, adding that the initiative reflects the company’s commitment to supporting the next generation of innovators.

On behalf of KNUST, Professor David Asamoah, Pro Vice-Chancellor, welcomed the partnership and underscored the importance of aligning academic training with industry needs. He reiterated the University’s commitment to preparing students for real-world careers through strategic collaborations with industry leaders.

Professor Edmund Ekuadzi, Dean of the International Programmes Office, further noted that the agreement formally initiates a structured collaboration between both institutions, which will be led by Dr. Kwame Sarkodie of the Department of Petroleum Engineering.

Through this initiative, participating students will benefit from mentorship, industry exposure, and opportunities to showcase innovative concepts and prototypes that contribute to Ghana’s energy transition and sustainability agenda.
